Forget William, It's all about Harry!
Potter, I'm talking about! - Theatres were mobbed this weekend with Potter-ites!
According to The LA Times, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 earned 125.1 million in North America and in the several countries around the world where it opened this weekend enjoyed huge box office including in Britain where it took in 28 million, Germany where it raked in 21.8 million and Japan where it earned 14 million.
And despite the fact that the new films opening Thanksgiving weekend include the Dwayne Johnson action joyride Faster, Disney’s Tangled, Christina Aguilera’s screen debut, Burlesque and the Anne Hathaway romantic comedy Love & Other Drugs, it’s safe to assume Deathly Hallows or HP7 will have a repeat number one opening performance next week as well.
And that’s only half of the story. With Warner Brothers studios decision to split this final chapter of the Harry Potter saga in two movies, (The Deathly Hallows Part 2 will hit theaters July 2011) it means the entire Harry Potter film series will definitely surpass Star Wars, as the most successful film franchise in history.
Did you see Harry Potter this weekend? Was it Hollywood magic or hype? Will you see it? Do you care? Share your thoughts.
