How to keep cool in a heat wave
LA is hot, and just as in Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing," tensions and tempers are rising with the heat. How does one stay cool, calm and collected in this sweltering sun? The beach is only a drive away for those lucky few who don't have to work for a living and if you have a friend with a pool, count your blessings. But what about those of us who have to run around town in this misery? How does one cope?
Here are few ideas:
Lathering oneself with Dermatalogica's 30 SPF keeps the skin from burning (as long as one remembers to re-apply regularly all day), but sunscreen doesn’t keep one comfortable, only shade can do that.
For shade, a gal’s first option is a hat, and a big one. However, that brings the dreaded “hat hair” and even then, the sun still beats down directly on your head, cooking your scalp. And honestly, how much actual shade can a hat offer?
A better option is the Penelope Parasol. It’s petite and pretty and best of all, it’s 20% off for Brits in LA members until the end of September.
Lastly, remember to drink plenty of water. Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. You need water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to your organs and tissues.
Here’s to keeping cool!
