If you need a car - Buy or Lease, Joe Seymour is the guy to talk to. For those of you on a visa, the Foreign Business Professionals Plan is probably your best option but speak to Joe, our guy at VW. Can't believe The Toscars started out as a small project for Brits in LA three years ago, and we are coming up to our forth year of this fun-tastic event.
We parody the nominated movies for best feature. Teams are chosen on January 25th - You have up until the Wednesday before the actual Oscars to produce, write, star in, costume, make-up and edit a 5 minute short parody of the film you are assigned - *A few rules are set in place. Teams are chosen randomly. The Thursday before Oscars we screen all the films and hold a red carpet event. Everybody gets a voting ballot to choose their favorite Toscar, Whactor, Whactress, Best Supporting Whactor and Supporting Whactress. This Will be the most fun you'll have all Oscar season. Guaranteed. Our State Needs Money - Current Moving violation fees

Thanks to BLA member Ian Abercrombie for this recent info:
Please be extremely careful in your driving and car registration & insurance matters.  State of California is broke and they are trying hard to squeeze all of us hard to collect money.

Effective immediately, if you do not stop at the red light, be ready to pay $436 in fines or if you pass a school bus with flashing red signals, you will be charged $616.  The state of California is going for blood, so be extra careful in driving, You cannot afford messing with them.  I have been hearing that Highway Patrols are under pressure to issue a lot more tickets than last year with at least 30% increase in fines over 2009, so beware of radar guns, highway and traffic cameras installed everywhere and the tougher enforcement of parking rules.
Just for your info, the next time you park in the handicapped zone, even for a minute, you will be looking at almost $ 1000 in parking tickets , so it'd better be worth it.

I recently read about this great service started by two dudes in Sant Monica, (unfortunately only available on the westside at the moment.) Meet ...

Would you like to be warned BEFORE you get a Parking Ticket? Call Us: 310-598-7301Street sweeping tickets are $61 dollars – the most expensive citation for a parking violation. And if you fail to pay that ticket after 21 days, the fine is doubled and collection charges are added. If you have 5 or more unpaid parking tickets, the City of Los Angeles Parking Violations Bureau says you, “become eligible to be booted or towed”. But we’re pretty sure the only thing you’re actually eligible for is a really bad day!for more info click here

VAT now 20% in the UK & Why Jaffa Cakes are Tax Free!!

In case you missed the news, VAT is now 20% in Britain. It makes the 9.75% we pay in California seem a pittance.
No tax for Jaffa Cakes though! Under UK law, no VAT is charged on plain biscuits and cakes Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are subject to VAT. McVities classed its Jaffa Cakes as cakes, but in 1991, this was challenged by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and the case ended up before the courts. The court asked "What criteria should be used to class something as a cake?" McVities defended its classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes, producing a 12" (30 cm) Jaffa Cake to illustrate that its Jaffa Cakes were simply miniature cakes. McVities argued that a distinction between cakes and biscuits is, among other things, that biscuits would normally be expected to go soft when stale, whereas cakes would normally be expected to go hard. It was demonstrated to the Tribunal that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale.
