Editor's Letter

Hi Breeps!

October just keeps getting better and better for me. Earlier in the year the British Community rallied round and helped me make a short film. 206 people pledged to see and Marc Cleary make Pepper.

And so many Brits in LA members got involved in the filmmaking process too, from appearing as background and/or Production assisting on the set. Well everybody got to celebrate on Tuesday night in WEHO at one of the best gay bars in town - Rage (8911 Santa Monica Boulevard, West hollywood) Home of the Dreamgirls drag show starring our lead actor Scott Kaske. We projected the movie in the main room and showed it simultaneously on the TV screens. The film got an amazing reception and everybody celebrated with cocktails afterwards with a special performance by Scott doing his thing in the Dreamgirls show.

I’m so proud of the team effort and was lucky with the cast and crew we got. Big shout out to Marc Cleary the writer, my co-director and co-producer without none of this would have been possible. Love ya brother.

Another first for me last week was a baseball game. I managed to score tickets to see the Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals so took my good friend and Brits in LA member Marc Coneely. Also a Baseball virgin. We went in to Dodgers stadium blindly and came out true fans.- luckily we had a pro on hand, my good friend Lyndsey Clough who taught us all we need to know and it was one hell of a game. Aloe Blacc sang the national anthem which gave me chills and of course we were seating in the all-u-can-eat section and chowed down on the famous dodger dogs and supped on giant sized cans of Mexican beer. And the game itself was electrifying with the Dodgers winning the very important game 6-4. The crowd was intense and behind the home team all the way waving their dodger towels and chanting GO GO DODGERS.

On Friday they played again but on the Cardinals turf and lost 9-0. I guess it’s true what they say about the roar of the crowd helping the team. Our sports writer Steve Sidelnyk was there too and wrote a match report for us which is on our blog (www.britsinla.blogspot.com) and Steve has a big birthday coming up next month so a big shout out to him.

Our facebook wall has been alight with talks of British chocolates and where to get them. Our favourite store Oh Fancy That (18399 Ventura Boulevard, Ste 11, Tarzana, CA 91356) stocks everything including some of my favourites - Flakes, Fryes Turkish Delight and Maltesers. And also Bed, Bath and Beyond have started to carry Quality Street. Just in time for those trick or treaters.

And a debate about Obama Care and how it affects us all coming January.

Member Adam Beach as already helped countless Brits in LA members get affordable insurance and whether you are for it or not, come January every US resident must carry insurance or they will have to pay a large penalty at the end of the year. To find out more information you can reach him on 310 414 2100 or email him at info@beachfinancialgroup.com to get more information or get into an affordable plan.

We are so excited about our “Dead British” Halloween Party on Oct 31st at Bar Lubitsch (7702 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA) This year the event is sponsored by Volkswagen Santa Monica - An LA car Guy dealership and Beltran Brito Immigration Attorneys. HUMOR ABUSE
Humor Abuse
Performed by Lorenzo Pisoni
Directed by Erica Schmidt
Mark Taper Forum
Thru – Nov 3, 2013
Run away and join the circus with a clown, his dad and a lifetime of memories.
“90 minutes of nonstop hilarity…a tour de force of physical comedy.” – San Francisco Chronicle
Life lessons fly fast and funny for Lorenzo Pisoni when he joins the family business – San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus – at the age of six, earning his clown college stripes (and polka dots) through on-the-job training with his exacting father as his role model, guru and comic foil.
In his autobiographical Humor Abuse, Pisoni is a one-man whirlwind: spinning stories like plates and performing side-splitting physical feats with aplomb, mixing heart and humor in a tenderly rendered homage to the consummate performer, parent and perfectionist who taught him everything he needed to fill some very big shoes.
“Mr. Pisoni’s performance is breathtaking,” – Charles Isherwood, The New York Times
