Don't you just hate it when you get a song stuck in your head? Even worse when it is an awful one! The Hokey Cokey is the song du jour for me
(listen to a version by Black Lace here), unfortunately I think it might be an ongoing soundtrack through until June 23rd - ‘In, Out, Shake it All About’ is basically what I think of the upcoming UK/EU referendum... I don’t have a vote as I’ve been away from Britain for longer than 15 years;
I feel like this is such a big decision that we should all be eligible to vote shouldn’t we? Irish & Commonwealth residents can vote - but I can't... not that I begrudge them a vote, I just want one too!
It is a bit archaic and the Conservative party are championing ‘Votes for Life’ , but not in time for the referendum … There is a government petition to change this - so if you agree with me click here to sign to get it heard in parliament and hopefully get it changed!
To be honest if I did have a vote I am not sure I would know how to use it. (But I would certainly not waste it! ) On the one hand we have David Cameron making deals in Europe that he claims are legally binding, but then the European Parliament President (Schulz) says there is no guarantee on anything they discussed , slightly disproving the old adage ‘Show me an honest politician..”
Someone once said “never trust a man with two first names’ which has often concerned me, being called Eileen Lee, but then I take comfort in the fact that I am not a man. However I think Mr Cameron could possibly (just about) fall under that category. In which case, should we trust him? I do often wish California was independent, but then I also agree there is sometimes safety in numbers. But not if you partner up with lunatics! I would love to hear what you are all thinking, as it is all a bit of a mystery to me ( cue up next song on my mental soundtrack) ..
If you have are eligible to vote, please make sure to register to vote.
Apparently more people vote for American Idol than they do in the Presidential elections !

Thank you to all of you who wrote in and informed me that a ‘washing up bowl’ is called a dishpan in the USA - Apparently you can buy a lovely one at Bed Bath & Beyond for just $5.99 , although I’ve been informed that the 99 Cents store carries them too - I know where my vote goes in the dishpan debate!

Bewildered by the thought of how to file your taxes?
We get asked if we can recommend a Tax specialist several times a week.
It is definitely confusing, especially if you have to file both in your home country and the US.
One of our members recently used www.taxcs.com and was so happy with their service she recommended them to us.
They are also experts in US Taxation for US Citizens living abroad
They are very knowledgeable when it comes to International Taxes, plus their rates are completely transparent; so as long as you are too there should be no hidden fees!
They offer a 30 minute FREE consultation and rates start from 150 USD for a tax return and depending on complexity can increase in cost from there. The average cost for a US tax return is around 275 USD. That would include (1) Federal and (1) State return, (1) rental property, and (1) small business.
Fbar filing starts at 75 USD
They can also help with tax planning too - a bit late for this year as tax returns are due in April, however you can get a head start for your spending in 2016 and find out what deductions you should be taking advantage of
Contact Anthony Ciak
via email Info@taxcs.com to set up a consultation
They are based in Holland but have several advisers in California too .
Did you know if you earn under $60,000 and are a US Citizen you may be eligible to file your taxes for free? Click here to read more
