Meet Brits in LA member Henny Letailleur from East London

Meet Henny Letailleur from Hackney, East London, who tells us what made her make the move to Los Angeles 6 years ago.  It was more of a lifestyle change rather than pursuing a career. I was really over working in London and wanted to try living somewhere new. I am a clothing stylist and work on advertising, commercials, red carpet, music videos and am hoping to do more costume based work. I have also teamed up with a graphic designer friend and recently launched my own line of candles based on California places, with homeware with fashion items coming soon. We run a regular market stall on Melrose Place.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA ? I’d been coming to LA for a few years with some work and had some friends and also family members nearby. I’ve always loved LA and all the different things it has to offer.
What do you miss most from home? I miss my my friends and family hugely so I try to go back as often as possible.. Next…

This week’s Meet a Member is Andrew Jonathan Smith who lives in London...
Seeing as you don’t live in Los Angeles how did you end up joining Brits in LA? A friend told me how amazing it was after I was in LA for a month last summer — and she was totally right!

What is your impression of LA? I love it so much — obviously Southern California is a place of extreme beauty, and coming from the UK it’s always nice to be in a bit of sun! But what makes LA really special to me is the friends, family and community I have here; it’s the city that some of the people closest to my heart call home.

Do you think you could ever see yourself moving to LA, if not tell us what keeps you in London? After visiting last summer and falling in love with the city, moving to LA became the dream. I feel really at home here, it’s just a case of waiting for the right time and opportunity.

Do you have a hidden gem want to share with us? Whenever my American friends visit the UK, I seem to end up taking them to Kahail…

Britweek Celebrations

Greetings Britlings –  Are you celebrating yourselves, after all it is BRITWEEK?! Nigel Lythgoe, Trent W. Harmon and the night’s honoree, pop impresario Simon Fuller It of course is “more than just a week”, it’s a couple of weeks of great British culture, arts, design and music. I was fortunate enough to attend the BritWeek Innovation awards this week at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City, honoring the best in Innovation. It was so nice to see so many BiLA members there, including Kim Morgan Greene, Guy Salisbury, Adam Beach, Claire Bullivant, Chantel Rickard and Matthew Wiseman from BAFTA/LA. I was a guest of Air New Zealand and got to sit at the table with one of the winners. This year’s winner of the last American Idol, Trent Harmon performed a couple of songs and Nigel Lythgoe led a Q&A with the evening’s honoree, Simon Fuller from 19 Management who has had quite the illustrious career, from creating and guiding the Spice Girls, to managing David Beckham and Annie Lenn…
