Leaning Tower of London??

Apparently Big Ben has developed a slight lean! Experts say the 0.26 degree angle is 1/16th of the Leaning Tower of Pisa's tilt. They are not sure what is causing this but the good news is that it will be between 4,000 -10,000 years before it becomes a real problem.

Writer and director Arivind Abraham is hosting a free class called "Writing for Transmedia Experiences" in November, where folks will find out about the difference of writing for an interactive mobile app (as he has done) versus a feature length film (which he has also done). It would be great for anyone who wants to learn about writing for this emerging media platform, as well as creative individuals who would like to connect with a fellow creative.

Anyone interested in taking the class (up to five folks) can sign up via Skillshare . It's FREE and first come first serve.

Julian Sands, recently acclaimed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for his one-man show celebrating writer Harold Pinter, will next direct in Los Angeles fellow British thesp Neil Dickson in Stephen Wyatt’s “The Standard Bearer” about an old theater trooper who takes Shakespeare on the road to local communities in Africa and is forced to confront his very existence.  “The Standard Bearer” will open October 19, 2011, at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre, 5636 Melrose Avenue, and run every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening at 8.00 pm until November 12, 2011.

Julian now brings that same inspiration and value to Neil Dickson in “The Standard Bearer”.    Dickson played the role of Harold Ford in the television series “Mad Men” and his most recent film, “The Favour of Your Company” was shown at the 2010 BAFTA/LA Showcase.   He worked on Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”, Ridley Scott’s “Body of Lies”, David Lynch’s “Inland Empire” and the BAFTA Award winning film, “Chasing Chekhov”.    He has appeared in London at The Young Vic in “The Dumbwaiter”, The Albery in Pinero’s “The Gay Lord Quex” directed by Sir John Gielgud, and at the Mermaid Theatre in “Trafford Tanzi”.  In Los Angeles he has appeared at the Pasadena Playhouse, and The Odyssey and Complex theatres.   His radio work includes LA Theatre Works production “The Life of Galileo” and “The Importance of Being Earnest”, and for BBC “The Deep End”.

Quoting from “The Standard Bearer”, Dickson says “English actors have their own, very strange superstitions, our very own Voodoo, and Macbeth lies at the centre of these.”

Playwright Steven Wyatt has worked widely in England in theatre, radio and television, and his play “Memorials to the Missing” won the Tinniswood Award for best original radio script in 2007 as well as Silver in the Best Drama category of the 2008 Sony Radio Academy Awards.  His first full length comedy, “Exit, Pursued by a Bear” was produced at the 1973 Edinburgh Festival.  “The Standard Bearer” was first produced in London in 2001.
