Brits in LA Newsletter August 6th 2013

If you are new to LA you maybe interested to know that you don’t need an American credit score to buy or lease a car, there is such thing as an International Leasing plan that both Volkswagen, Santa Monica and Audi Pacific offer, that takes into account your credit score back home and proof of some sort of visa to work in the USA. Email Artem or Jordan at Volkswagen, SM or Evan Bolton at Audi Pacific at  to find out how you can get into a car hassle free - these guys have helped countless Brits in LA members already.

Plus both dealerships have committed to donating $100 per vehicle leased or sold to

Hi Everyone
Cor Blimey! Can't believe it is August already!
What a busy week it has been for the Brits!
Craig and I popped along to wish the British Consul General,  Dame Barbara Hay a bon voyage last week. Her Los Angeles appointment seems to have flown by far too quickly, and I for one have thoroughly enjoyed having her be a part of the Brits in LA community.
Dame Barbara Hay and Tom La Bonge
We also managed to pop in to our Breakfast Club sponsor, Next Stop LAX Summer Party on Saturday.
Lovely to see a lot of Brits in LA members turned out for it. What a great afternoon and a wonderful setting atop of the Hollywood Tower.
Craig and I posing with Emma Pyne!

Sunday Roast at the Pikey was as lovely as always. A great turn out yesterday, almost felt like an afternoon in a pub back in the UK for a bit!
Next one will be September 1st - click here to RSVP
Don't forget all the Brit pubs offer a Sunday Roast including our top 5
click here to see who you voted your favourite

After the roast I whizzed off to catch Engelbert Humperdinck at the Starlight Bowl.
What a lovely venue! I highly recommend you visiting if you can.
One of my new favourite places in the LA area!
Mr Humperdinck was even better than expected.
He has a great sense of humour and kept the 4000+ audience amused and entertained the whole evening. We even got to run down to the front and get a closer look!
I must say the highlight of my evening was getting a tweet from Engelbert Humperdinck after the show, thanking us for coming! He has a new album coming out in the next couple of months. Duets with some great artists, including Willie Nelson, Gene Simmons and Elton John.

This Friday is another night out in honour of my grandmother, as I am going to
see Phil Crosby Jr (grandson of Bing Crosby - nan was a huge fan!!)
perform downtown at the Cicada Club .
He has generously offered to give a complimentary cd to all Brits in LA members that attend the show. Tickets can be purchased here
1920's dress is encouraged. Hope to see some of you there?!

Some of you may recall that our Christmas toy drive benefits the charity
I received a very sad note in my inbox this week from Kimberly Moore who runs the organisation. She is currently helping four children (age 1-8) who were abandoned by their mother 4 months ago!! They have been living alone and fending for themselves by stealing and scavenging. Fortunately Kimberly has managed to help find them somewhere to live but they still need some support.needs extra food, clothes for the children, pampers in size 5, baby bottles, blankets, car seats, school supplies and you name it! If you click on the links below you can see some of the things each child needs.
Every little bit helps, so please do what you can.

The film is about Sir Nicholas Winton and the nearly forgotten tale of his

of the 300 "children" who have been found, over 5,700 descendants are now

Now Playing – August 18, 2013

A time-twisting funhouse from the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning author of Clybourne Park and the Tony Award®-winning director of August: Osage County.

Past, present and future collide for Bee, when strange new revelations rock her seemingly normal suburban life, taking us down the rabbit hole on a wildly unforgettable ride full of hairpin plot turns, riotously shifting realities and havoc-wreaking time travel.
This bold new play will make you laugh, gasp and wonder how much control we truly have over our lives.
Masterful storyteller Norris follows up his monster Taper hit Clybourne Park with a mind-scrambling comedy that gleefully distorts our perspective while posing profound questions about the choices we make.

“It makes your head spin in all the right ways.”

- Chicago Tribune

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard" From Musical Theatre West

Hollywood noir meets Broadway razzle-dazzle in Sunset Boulevard, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical adaptation of Billy Wilder's classic film. Complemented by one of Webber's most radiant scores, Sunset Boulevard is every bit as enthralling, dark and delicious as the original black-and-white masterpiece. Sidelined by the introduction of "talkies," silent movie star Norma Desmond longs for a return to the big screen. Her neediness and cunning provide the perfect trap for down-and-out screenwriter Joe Gillis who wanders into her decaying mansion looking for a quick buck ... and gets much more in return. She is amazing!

A friend is really not having a good experience in life and needs your support and the sun in your cousin sign Leo will bring you the energy to help . This coming week it’s about family or who you consider such.

You should start to get moving and grooving and start the week in good form and
energy. You will have the Sun shining on you for pleasant recreation. This is not the time  for changes in career situations until the end of August.

What can you achieve this week is up to how willing you are to make the right call to the right person on time .Hold off on major decisions until the end of August as your energy will move you in a good direction then.

If you continue to hold on to grudges you will be on the wrong end of the stick
this week in a situation that will require you to keep your temper .The Sun in your money house however is a gift bringer. Its still a good time with Jupiter in your life.

The powerful sun in your own sign is in a good mood this month so you should begin the month finishing of any thing not finished from the whole of the year so far.
Happy Birthday to you Lions.

Any task or job unfinished will be easier to deal with after the 15th of this month. Hopefully you will spare time to relax and play until then. Work picks up nearer September so hang on until then.

Travel is much on your mind and this can make you a bit antsy if you cannot get away right now. The fact is that other things are on your plate so bite the bullet and wait until September. It will be much easier all round then.

It’s still heavy going these days, however there is always a reason for anything under the Sun ,so it is up to you yourself to discover what is the most important lesson you are learning now .You will much better generally by the end of this month.

Your boss Jupiter is sitting in Cancer the leader of the water signs  so be aware that any emotionally charged areas for you. They will be ready to open up and spill with this in mind watch that temper. However all is not totally lost as the sun in your cousin sign Leo smiles at you and brings some fun days. .

This month is a great opportunity to decide on a long overdue decision in any area. In the mean time be seen out and about looking your best. You will be in a forgiving mood so
at long last time to say good bye to any negative past.

You are probably feeling like a break away so even if you can not get out of town take time out in the garden or walk on the beach .If you feel nervous it’s due to the very active planets affecting your emotions in this coming week.

.Financial situations are  much on your mind and if you learn Rome was not built in a day things will work much easier for you. If some one around you is acting out their drama remember it’s not yours .Do not react to it!!

Congratulations to Annie McQueen
