If you are new to LA you maybe interested to know that you don’t need an American credit score to buy or lease a car, there is such thing as an International Leasing plan that both Volkswagen, Santa Monica and Audi Pacific offer, that takes into account your credit score back home and proof of some sort of visa to work in the USA. Email Artem or Jordan at Volkswagen, SM or Evan Bolton at Audi Pacific at  to find out how you can get into a car hassle free - these guys have helped countless Brits in LA members already.

Plus both dealerships have committed to donating $100 per vehicle leased or sold to

Editor's Letter
Hey Breeps

Brits Breakfast club (spnsored by Nextstop LAX) seems to be getting bigger and bigger, I counted over 60 guests on Tuesday. And it’s so nice to see people table hopping, laughing eating a good breakfast and reading the British Weekly, of course. I overheard conversations of film-making, songwriting, did you see our Darren Darnborough on the telly last week?

People helping each other and sharing information. I was even at it myself picking the British producer Julia Verdin’s brains about festival submitting. Now Marc Cleary and I have finished our film “Pepper”, we needed some help in our strategy. And Julia is a ‘festival darling’ and shared her tips of wisdom with us which hopefully will help us along the way. - I’ll let you know which festivals we get into. (Fingers crossed)
Marc and I with the harddrive, after filming was in the can.

Speaking of brains - Eileen and I went to the Hollywood premiere of  “The Wizard Of Oz” at the Pantages Theatre, Hollywood. The new musical adaptation by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jeremy Sams (who also directs), have added a few new songs - I’m not too sure about them YET! - but i think being spoilt with such memorable songs as “Somewhere over the rainbow”, “we're off to see the wizard” and ”Ding dong the witch is dead” overshadowed the new numbers- oh my... What a spectacular!! This is a must see for all ages - okay not newborns (i never will understand why people take their screaming babies to the theatre, aren’t there enough babysitters in so-cal?) Those of us oldies who can reminisce and a new experience for the next generation too - Great set design mixed with stunning film projected visuals of swirling tornados and stunning sound design took me right back to my youth where the land of make believe was alive and well - and the lead Danielle Wade who won the role on a British reality show “Over the rainbow” is perfectly cast. It felt like it really was Judy Garland up there. -

The Pantages theatre is located at Hollywood and Vine (6233 Hollywood Boulevard), in Hollywood. Designed by architect B. Marcus Priteca, it was the last theater built by the vaudeville impresario Alexander Pantages

The palatial Art Deco theater opened on June 4, 1930, as part of the Pantages Theatre Circuit and is by the way is one of LA’s most magnificent theatres, the lobby is gilded in gold, keeping its art deco theme into the auditorium. And a little bit of history it was used as a location in the movie the Jazz singer. Now we can lead avery charmed life here in Hollywood and we are very blessed to experience so many wonderful things -

Like going to award shows.

My good friend Herb Ankrom, Brits in LA member and twice emmy winner himself (for producing Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for ABC invited me to attend. And it was true hollywood - no yellow brick road but this scarecrow definitely wasn’t in Clifton, Nottingham (a council estate) anymore! This road was red and more stars than you can shake a stick at - Michael Douglas, Clare Danes, Matt Damon, Ryan Seacrest, the list goes on and on! The show was amazing with performances by our own Elton John and Carrie Underwood along with the host Neil patrick Harris sing and dance numbers. We had a blast. -

We also celebrated Variety’s ‘Ten to watch’ list and British Airways new airbus which just landed for the first time at LAX - We enjoyed cocktails with the  members of Brits in LA     Key Members at a hollywood hills home that is on the market for $28 million (anyone want to chip in?)

We just came across this great website called Drive Hubber
It is perfect for Brits in LA members! So many of you are traveling or looking for rental cars. Drive Hubber operate out of the airport, which means you can drive to LAX in your own car (save on a taxi) then drop your car off with them (save on parking at the airport) then they will rent your car out whilst you are away! Visited their website to list your car today.  Any questions you can speak to Paul at Hubber

How it works:
pre-list your vehicle, and when someone wants to rent it you get free parking for your entire trip, a car wash, and fuel service.  If your car isn't booked prior to your trip,
you will have enough time to still arrange a ride to the airport.
Insurance is included in Hubber's rates which clears any confusion for visitors from abroad.  Yes you are insured!  Must have a valid drivers license and be over 21 .

Humor Abuse
Performed by Lorenzo Pisoni
Directed by Erica Schmidt
Mark Taper Forum
Sept 17 – Nov 3, 2013

Run away and join the circus with a clown, his dad and a lifetime of memories.
“90 minutes of nonstop hilarity…a tour de force of physical comedy.” – San Francisco Chronicle
Life lessons fly fast and funny for Lorenzo Pisoni when he joins the family business – San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus – at the age of six, earning his clown college stripes (and polka dots) through on-the-job training with his exacting father as his role model, guru and comic foil.
In his autobiographical Humor Abuse, Pisoni is a one-man whirlwind: spinning stories like plates and performing side-splitting physical feats with aplomb, mixing heart and humor in a tenderly rendered homage to the consummate performer, parent and perfectionist who taught him everything he needed to fill some very big shoes.
“Mr. Pisoni’s performance is breathtaking,” – Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

She is amazing!

Your health should be a priority this month ahead, so if you are planning doing anything that could jeopardize your health take heed and put it off until you get fitter.

What ever you are thinking you feel is probably not the truth as the planets that affect you are going backwards you cannot trust what you think or feel .Be careful when a sometime friend tells you a secret.

You will have to make haste to put right that unfinished emotional business that is still hovering in the back of your mind .Its best to lay low this week ahead with tried and true friends.

Plans are delayed this week due to a change in financial matters. Remember a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush this will ring true in a family situation this coming month.

Movement of some kind is all around you this coming month even if nothing has come forward for you yet. You would be wise to watch every penny for a while as unexpected funds will be needed.

You will be getting a break this coming month due to positive planets helping you along. The last couple of years problems are receding this year and onwards .Its a good weekend to celebrate a Happy Birthday

You will find you feel better when you sort out any financial concerns or any problems in that area. Saturn the karma planet visiting your part of finances currently will bring this up.

Venus the love planet is visiting you this month and this can mean fated relationships of any kind .If you are looking for love its nearer to you than you think .Be very sure however to take your time with any decision.

Your boss Jupiter is sitting in Cancer a water sign so be good as he will be watching you and hoping you wont let that famous foot in your mouth get you into trouble .This  means in any area and to any body.

The sun in your cousin sign of Virgo will assist you to get the job done as this month is a great opportunity to complete a long overdue project that has been long neglected its probably in your home base.

You are probably feeling like a break away so even if you can get out of town take time out in the garden or walk on the beach .If you can swing a weekend away this is the time as next month will be busier.

Jupiter is assisting you all the way through January next year to get your life in order and to experience happier days .The family is much on your mind and if you learn to live in the moment things will work out quicker and with less stress.

SO funny! Team Stephen Merchant
