Email Artem or Jordan at Volkswagen, Santa Monica,  or Evan Bolton at Audi Pacific at  to find out how you can get into a car hassle free - these guys have helped countless Brits in LA members already.

Editor's Letter

Hi Everyone
Welcome to all the new members who have joined Brits in LA this past week . Make sure to check our events section and also read the welcome message (may be in your 'other' inbox) before you post your questions, as 50% of the time it has been answered there! We also have groups dedicated to Housing, Jobs and For Sale page too.
Award season is in full swing and Brits in LA are caught up in the Oscar fever with  their long awaited 7th Annual Toscars! This is our short film parody competition of the current Oscar nominees for ‘Best Picture’.  10 Teams of 10 people were randomly selected last week, and now it’s time for the games to begin! Rules are pretty strict - original screenplay and musical score, budget of $250, and a little over 3 weeks to produce a 5 minute film. It is truly amazing what people can do when under pressure - submissions over the years have ranged from “No Country For Gay Old Men’ (which was so long it was in two parts)  to the very clever “Djangle Unleashed” .

Last years Toscar winner “Miserable Lesbians” went on to become a stage show that was performed in London, New York and even at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Oscar winner Eric Roberts was a judge last year, and Oscar show writer Bruce Vilanch headed up the judges the year before -
Eliza & Eric Roberts
Bruce says The Toscars are more fun than the actual Oscars! My favorite comment was from the BBC, who said “where else in Hollywood would you see former Bond actor George Lazenby and Sid Owen (Eastenders) at the same event” . It all ends with a glamourous black tie affair, (we held it at the historical Egyptian Theatre last year) and the presentation of the coveted Golden Fist !
Visit our website for all the details on this years event and to view the films from previous years. Geek Eyewear, UpakWeShip and Beltran Brito have all come on board as sponsors - there are still a few opportunities available. Email me here if you want to be part of The Toscars!

Our ‘Meet a Member’ this week is the multi talented Ewan Chung, not a Brit, but a very active Brits in LA member - he is not only a Toscar winner several times over, but is a fabulous singer too - Catch him live at Sterlings (5303 N Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood) on January 27th in a show called Miscasts - proceeds from the night go to Project Angel Food.

Brits in LA are hosting their first ever Burns Night celebration this weekend - fortunately we have roped in the Scottish guys from Glenfiddich and The Balvenie to make sure it has that authentic feel. You will be delighted to hear that they are also providing complimentary whisky! Lorne Cousin ( who toured with Madonna!) will be piping in the haggis, and we have entertainment from Scottish comedian Wendy Wason . You don’t have to be Scottish to attend , in fact we welcome you! There is even a prize for the best fake Scottish accent , so get practicing! See you at Bedford & Burns (369 N. Bedford, Beverly Hills) Saturday January 25th.

I sadly had to put our cat to sleep this week, but wanted to thank Choice Vet who were recommended to me by Brits in LA member Stuart Galbraith. Over the years I have had to go through this process several times  but have always visited the vet , which is often traumatic for both me and my pet. Choice Vet come to the house and and its truly makes the world of difference, especially for the animal So if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, don't hesitate to contact them.

We have lots of other events coming up over the next few weeks , our weekly Pub Quiz and Breakfast Club are on every Tuesday rain or shine. Monthly Sunday Roast at the Pikey in Hollywood will be on February 2nd.
Have a great week and see you all soon!

It is Free Admissions Day this Saturday

Christopher Plummer's accolades are so varied (and so many) that it's almost easier to list the few awards he hasn't already won. From Academy Awards (Beginners) to Tony Awards (Cyrano, Barrymore) to Emmy Awards (Arthur Hailey's The Moneychangers), his entertainment career has been as diverse as it has been revered. Now one of our greatest classical actors brings his abounding talent to the stage of the Ahmanson Theatre in A Word or Two, written and arranged by Plummer himself, and directed by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff (The Who's Tommy). An autobiographical odyssey through the literature that has inspired him since we was a boy, this love affair with the written word finds Plummer giving his personal take on the works of literary giants like William Shakespeare, Rudyard Kipling, George Bernard Shaw, Dylan Thomas, Lord Byron and A.A. Milne.
Hailed by The New York Times as a "passionate love letter to language," A Word or Two is an intimate night of literary luxury with one of the medium's most ardent admirers.

Jason and the Argonauts:

A Fun and Innovative Retelling for the Whole Family

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts,
(9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Beverly Hills, CA 90210)
January 16-25
Using two actors, a handful of action figures and one incredible wooden cart, Visible Fictions, Scotland's acclaimed children's theater company, innovatively recreates the classic Greek myth Jason and the Argonauts. The New York Times called this adaptation "sly, silly, sophisticated and altogether winning." When heir to the throne Jason was just an infant, he was sent away to save him from his evil uncle. Now, this wannabe hero is back to claim his throne. But to become king he'll have to embark on an epic quest for the Golden Fleece with his crew of heroes, the Argonauts. Audiences young and old will enjoy this quirky and exciting take on the timeless adventure.

Your health should be a priority this month ahead, so if you are planning doing anything that could jeopardize your health take heed . The Mars your boss in Libra can trigger a temper outburst ,be sure its not yours.

What ever you are thinking you feel is probably not the truth as the planets that affect you are going backwards you cannot trust what you think or feel .Be careful
when driving at night in a hurry .
You will have to make some decision to put right that unfinished emotional business that is still hovering in the back of your mind .Its best to set your plans for unexpected travel this not related to work.

Plans are delayed this week due to a change in financial matters. Remember a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush this will ring true in a family situation this coming month.

Movement of some kind is all around you this coming month even if nothing has come forward for you yet. You would be wise to spend this next few days lying low as the planets are not behaving.

You will be getting a break this coming month due to positive planets helping you along. The last couple of months problems are receding this  new year and onwards Its a lucky time frame this weekend.

You will find you can deal with life much better when you sort out any relationship problems in any area of life .Mars visiting you for a while can assist you to completion.

Life is slowly but surely becoming more interesting than for some months past for you especially in the love area .If you interested be out and about and look good!!

Your boss Jupiter is sitting in watery moody Cancer strolling backwards and about to move you to be more open with your feelings. Best to be honest now as he will be watching you and hoping you will not at the last moment let that famous foot in your mouth get you into trouble ..

The sun in the last few days of your sign brought up more action for your attention this weekend and can assist you to get the job done as this month is a great opportunity to complete a long overdue project.

You are probably feeling like a break away so even if you can get out of town take time out instead in the garden or walk on the beach. This is not the time to make big decisions this month however next month will be better .Happy Birthday

Jupiter is assisting you all the way through the end of February and in order to experience happier days its time to be honest about any feelings much on your mind and if you learn to live in the moment things will work out quicker.

BBC has some new shows! This is my current favourite
Uncle starring Nick Helm
