Brits in LA Newsletter March 21st, 2014

Brits in LA are excited to announce their new partnership with Jaguar North America. If you join Brits in LA today we have a very special offer for all of our members. *only available to Brits in LA members

Hi Everyone!
The British budget was announced this week, making it rather apt that this month seems to be all about numbers. 4.4 being the one us locals were talking about at 6.25 am last Monday morning!  Fortunately the earthquake caused no major damage, but served as a not so gentle reminder to be prepared. I recently stocked up on a few emergency supplies - water purifying tablets being at the top of my list. Check out website which will help you get a little organized for the big one. Red Cross offer tips on putting together an earthquake kit here.
MH370 is the number that is on the whole world’s mind. . I find it so hard to fathom that a 777 can just vanish - lets hope for the worried families sakes that this gets resolved quickly, one way or another.

On a lighter note, March 30th is Mothers Day in the UK - we have partnered up with Dean Morris Cards who are offering 15% off for Brits in LA members. Visit us on Facebook for all the details. We will be marking the occasion with a Sunday Roast at Palihouse, feel free to join us, there will be a special treat for all the Mothers in attendance!! is another great card site, especially last minute - you can even design your own and have it shipped directly to your Mum.They start at about $5, which is a great deal when you factor in the price of postage. Moonpig has certainly helped get me brownie points with my Mum in the past!
Me and my Mum!
$1 Million dollars is the sum of the deal Jake Thornton and his writing partner Ben Lustig managed to negotiate with Sony for their Winter’s Knight script. Jake has been a Brits in LA member almost since we started, so we are all particularly proud and pleased for his ‘overnight’ success (which took 7 years!). Make sure to pop over to our 'Meet A Member’ section as he is this week’s participant. Drop us a line at if you want to nominate someone to be our featured ‘Meet A Member’ or maybe you fancy having a go yourself?
April 15th is the deadline for individual tax returns - if you aren’t ready don’t forget to file an extension, this gives you an extra 6 months to prepare.
6800 is the number of Brits in LA members we have reached this week! Thank you all for making our group such a bustling and useful community for so many. Don’t forget, you don’t have to be British you just have to like us! If you find your request to join is taking a long time to process, please drop us a line and give us a nudge.

Back to the budget that George Osborne announced this week. Thankfully he had the sense not to raise fuel tax this year as it already seems rather extortionate. It seems they are scrapping the £1 coin (which has been in circulation since 1983!) and introducing a 12 sided replacement. So make sure you spend all those loose pounds before 2017, or perhaps send them all to your mother?!

3 (days time) is the magic number, for when I finally utilize the great offer from Yogaworks! I have absolutely no excuse now that they have opened one in Hollywood!  You can find the info at the bottom of the newsletter in the sports section.
My lucky number is 8, although I am quite partial to 13 too - what’s yours and why ? Tweet us at @BritsinLA or get in touch with me directly @Eileenies !

A Demo Reel or Showreel, is one of the most powerful tools an actor can have. Yet it always surprises me how many poorly presented ones I see out there. Unprofessional or lazy editing will make the project look cheap and will reflect badly on you.

First impressions go such a long way in this town, I'd like to say that it's all based on depth and inner beauty, but as we're the world's capital for Botox and plastic surgery, I think it's safe to say Hollywood likes something else too. We believe our work will only be as strong as its weakest link, and In a media savvy world where people make judgments in a matter of seconds, attention to detail is everything. You wouldn't hand in your Resume on a crumpled bit of paper,  you'd probably buy a folder, or possibly a portable iron. Invest in an amazing Reel.

Right now we
’re offering a whopping $100 OFF as in introductory rate. Plus additional discounts for all you lovely Brits.

In any relationship situation please keep a handle on that famous Ram temper as it will cause more problems especially since your boss Mars is strolling backwards and could  rebound on you .Happy Birthday

Your priority should be taking care of you in any area that requires attention. and start with what you know is well overdue .On the upside you can expect a call from a past interesting source so be ready.

The sun in Aries can bring out a very creative side of you and it also favors getting a handle on any unfinished business that is causing you some emotional upset.
If you feel you need to make a move in this direction, it will be easier as the week proceeds.

You will have to be aware this next week to not speak out of turn or harshly to any one .The consequences are long reaching for you especially if it’s a close friend or family .Its best to say nothing at all right now.

Yes this is a time for the inner crank to show itself for some of you who are not participating in life as you know you can .The sun in your cousin sign of Aries  added with unpredictable Uranus can set things in motion.

Its time for a trip as you benefit from the change of scenery. Just when you think you are about over something up it pops again .This is called unfinished business and it won’t leave until it is done.

The sun is your opposite sign of Aries will be ready to help you spring clean this next couple of weeks .Also affecting you is Uranus, he is in a feisty mood  and this along with Mars can set your temper off. Best to get to the spring cleaning to use up the energy

Life is about to heat up as the sun and Mars your boss in Libra strolling backwards start the spring off in a cheeky way. If you are looking for love it’s nearer to you than you think so don’t be seen out looking less than your best.

Your boss Jupiter is sitting in your area of emotions so be good as he will be watching you and hoping you wont let that temper take over your mind set. However all is not totally lost as the sun in your cousin sign Aries smiles at you.

Mercury moving in a positive way this week will assist you to get the job done. This month there is a great opportunity to decide on a long overdue decision in any area. In the mean time be seen out and about looking your best.

You are probably feeling like a break away even though it seems impossible to make the decision now .A walk on the beach or in nature can even out your mood. This does not have to be so overwhelming .You have to be able to ask for assistance.

Your recent birthday has made you more aware on what is not accomplished or unfinished in your life. Therefore if you are feeling blue be ready and willing to reach out to someone who needs your help .This is a good time for you to look at what is good in your life.
