Brits in LA Newsletter March 28th, 2014

Brits in LA are excited to announce their new partnership with Jaguar North America. If you join Brits in LA today we have a very special offer for all of our members. *only available to Brits in LA members
Hey Breeps!

Don’t forget mothering Sunday is next week! This actually got me thinking how so many of us move to LA alone and perhaps, if we are lucky, get to see our mothers once a year. Being a bit of a statistician, realized that I don’t really have an awful lot of time left on earth with her. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but lets say for example my mum is 68. The average life span of a British woman is 82.8 years, just increased by a year, according to a recent report in The Express newspaper (by the way life expectancy for a man has grown too, to 78.8 years). So my Mum comes to visit me once a year for a week. It takes her 2 days to get over jet lag. Which gives me, speculatively around 5 days a year with her. - 5 days per 15 average years = 75 days. - Depressing, isn’t it?
A mother/son visit to india

My whole point of this, was to highlight that every day counts and we should’t take our mum’s or anyone we love for that matter, for granted - Every day with her, for me counts. So many of my friends have already lost their mothers and my heart breaks for them. Mine is still here and i’m grateful for her and appreciate all the time together we have. She is kind, patient, loving and generous and a lot of fun to be around. She likes her wine (What she’s British, goes hand in hand) — So, take a little time when filling out those cards or sending flowers, to really put into words what your Mum means to you. I love ya Mum. And don’t worry I’m not counting the days! --I’m sure your gonna be sprite, way up into the hundreds - Here’s me hoping as I’m going to need someone to change my adult diapers. - (Joke-I hope?)

One of our most popular posts this week was about B.O. (Body Odor) and how best to approach a person who suffers from this pungent problem. There were quite a lot of suggestions on our Facebook group, from the good ol’ take them a side and have a private word, to give them a LYNX gift set (Sponsorship opp.) in the hopes they might use it. Gas masks for everyone else?!? - But in all honesty I feel that in this day and age we should be able to take care of our personal hygiene a little bit better, especially if going out in public. And especially in LA. Now i don’t mean to be mean, superficial and judgmental. But I feel we owe it to society to be clean and conscientious; washing hands after going pee-pee has become the norm (I hope) and hand sanitizer is readily available, even wipes in Trader Joe's to clean the handles on the shopping trolleys. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve been stinky, usually after a work out with JC MAC, a hike up Runyon canyon, or a hot yoga session, but I can usually always smell myself and will apologize if i met a friend casually, after said activity. - But there are those that truly are unaware. Do you think they have lost all sense of smell? Do you think they know and secretly tale pleasure in other peoples misery? Perhaps an ex-lover was turned on by 10 day old funk. Whatever the excuse…. in the words of that great British band The Police - “Don't stand so close to me.” ;-)

Moving swiftly on….We have some great things in the pipeline, including BINGO in April, Our World cup event and a Posh Summer Ball - All will be revealed in the coming months, but, in the meantime enjoy the changing of the season, and if you smell wafts of “Insincerity" by Calvin Kleen (sic) in West Hollywood - It’s me!!!!!

A Demo Reel or Showreel, is one of the most powerful tools an actor can have. Yet it always surprises me how many poorly presented ones I see out there. Unprofessional or lazy editing will make the project look cheap and will reflect badly on you.

First impressions go such a long way in this town, I'd like to say that it's all based on depth and inner beauty, but as we're the world's capital for Botox and plastic surgery, I think it's safe to say Hollywood likes something else too. We believe our work will only be as strong as its weakest link, and In a media savvy world where people make judgments in a matter of seconds, attention to detail is everything. You wouldn't hand in your Resume on a crumpled bit of paper,  you'd probably buy a folder, or possibly a portable iron. Invest in an amazing Reel.

Right now we
’re offering a whopping $100 OFF as in introductory rate. Plus additional discounts for all you lovely Brits.

The financial situation for you could be getting a boost as early as mid week arrives
Look for an opportunity to add to your bank account while Jupiter the gift bringer is in your life many good things can come.

Starting this week coming will be time for you to bring some stability in any area you need it even if it is only a mind set to turn around. After the end of this month not so good for new beginnings.

Your boss Mercury soon picked up speed this week and will complete what has transpired in your life these past few months. You will be travelling mentally or otherwise to a place that has memories in plenty.

Movement is good for you and this week it’s all around you and in the family also.
Be strong and understand you can do what ever you wish the clue is to make sure you don’t hold on.

Emotional issues could hold you back from enjoying this first week of the month
So tackle what is to do and make it your priority and spend time relaxing not stressing on what is not possible.

As this week moves forward fast be sure you are ready and willing to get going on your particular plan for the next month  .If it is a change in work or home this will work well .

With Mars the power monger going backwards in your life situations that demands your decisions are not easy. This is due to you normally not quickly making decisions. However you should at least do what is first on the list.

Its will be one those good weeks when all things fall in to place however you may have to deal with a person who is trying to belittle you in some way Be aware and don’t react.

If you want to change anything waiting around for others to make the first move is not a good idea. Mars the action maker in your life this month will bring things to a good conclusion or beginning!!

You may be feeling tired or worn down so it is likely as usual you are doing to much work .You are the most responsible sign of the Universe usually , how ever even you are allowed time out..

You are probably feeling a bit frustrated this week .Well that’s life for you so take a break and do not take out your frustrations on any one else it will be sure to catch you back. Life will pick up speed this month

The planets are really on your side this month, however as with all water signs you get a tad emotional at things most other people don’t understand. Don’t try to explain just be your self!

A man cut his own hand off with a homemade guillotine after enduring years of excruciating nerve pain.

Mark Goddard built the contraption using an axe, some springs and an old gate post. The 44-year-old claimed he resorted to such drastic action because hospital staff had refused to treat the pains he suffered for over 16 years following a motorcycle crash.
‘I should not have to go to such extremes to get my pain stopped. There was an alternative – and that was having it done properly in hospital,’ he explained.
