Was there a particular reason you chose LA? Clearly this was the best place for my son's career, but also it seemed there were some excellent opportunities for my legal career.
What do you miss most from home? I of course miss my family and you cannot get Gravy with Fish and Chips anywhere. I am a big football fan so miss watching Manchester City live.
What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since? Well the weather of course being hot and dry. Also terrible traffic, and a surprisingly relaxed dress code, even in the office.
What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus Manchester? It is a lot more expensive here, however, I do love that people, both other Brits and people from LA are very helpful and welcoming and in general much more positive than gruff, grey Manchester. It's probably the weather….
Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us? We fell in love with Aroma Bakery Café at 7373 Sunset Blvd, the biggest menu you have ever seen.
What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here? Just go for it, save up some money, but go for it.
Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom - what is the best piece of advice you've been given? Check everything out thoroughly before you sign anything. Things often appear a lot more tempting than they should be. Also you very much get what you pay for here.
Lastly, how can we find out more about you ? Are you working on anything at the moment? I am, as far as I am aware, the only British Personal Injury Attorney in LA. It is very helpful to have someone who understands both the British mentality and also the US legal system fighting in your corner after a crash or accident. There are all sorts of pitfalls for the unaware, and an Attorney will help you avoid them, save money and will undoubtedly obtain a much better settlement. I also do commercial litigation, recovering money for those who have not been paid following completion of a contract, or are owed money generally and need a legal solution to recover it. It is not well known but in order to practice English Law in California you need to be authorised as a Foreign Legal Consultant, which I am, so if people need papers signing by a Solicitor to be sent back to the UK, then I am available for that service. I also seem to be the go to person on Brits in LA if there is any legal issue outside of Immigration. If I don't know the answer I can usually recommend a local attorney who can assist.
Finally I have always had the ability to spot mistakes and errors in any kind of writing. I therefore offer a proof-reading service to script writers and authors alike.
If anyone has any legal questions or queries that I may be able to assist with, or indeed any proof-reading requirements please contact me at anesbit@nesbitlawgroup.com.
