Fun things to do in LA (without blowing your budget!)

I think it’s safe to say most of us are watching our pennies - with rising inflation and talks of a recession it would be daft not to. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still have some fun - although Los Angeles is often portrayed as a city full of decadence and wastefulness there are still quite a few things you can do on the cheap.

For example the Hollywood Bowl who are celebrating their 100th Birthday this year have tickets starting at $1!
This bargain price only applies to certain 'LA Phil presented events' but they also have affordable pricing for a lot of their other shows.
For $27 you can go see the legendary Diana Ross!
If you purchase directly by visiting the box office you can even avoid all of the extra hidden fees.
And use the promo code ‘DOLLAR’ to see if you can snag the $1 deal.

They often allow you to bring in your own food and drink for several of their shows and have
free wine tastings on Wednesdays & Sundays - click here for the Winemaker Wednesdays and Sunday Market Tastings schedule and visit the HollywoodBowl.com for  their full concert schedule.

West Hollywood is celebrating Summer on the Sunset Strip and have all kinds of affordable activities on offer including a pop up Roller Rink right next door to the iconic burger joint Carneys ( which still has a decently priced menu considering it’s prime location - burger and fries for under $15 including tax & tip!) - tickets to the Roller Rink start at $13.50 visit

If you have always wanted to be an audience member of your favourite TV programme you should visit www.1iota.com . They offer free tickets to the majority of the shows that are filmed here in LA, including The James Corden Show & The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Most of the museums around town have discounted or free entry at least some of the time. This includes some of L.A.'s most famous and popular cultural destinations, the Griffith Observatory, Getty Center and The Broad, all offer free admission year-round.

Not many people know that LACMA who usually requires you to be a member (or pay a premium ticket price) actually offers free entry to LA County residents (with a valid ID) Monday to Friday after 3pm. If you aren’t an official LA resident yet don’t despair as they open their doors to everyone on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Make sure to check out their exhibition for the great British fashion designer Alexander McQueen. ‘Lee Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse’ runs through till October 9th.

Visit www.LACMA.org for more info.

Our local radio station KCRW has brought back their fantastic (and free) event ‘Summer Nights’. For those not familiar , it’s a kind of traveling street festival with some excellent DJ’s. I went along to one they hosted in Chinatown a few weeks ago with Travis Holcombe and Jason Bentley. It’s very chilled and unpretentious, almost felt like a summer night in London when the pubs are overflowing on to the streets and everybody is in a relaxed and happy mood. Visit KCRW.com to see where are next .

Last but not least, we have a few complimentary tickets to advance screenings of National Geographic’s new film, THE TERRITORY - on the evening of August 11th at the AMC Burbank 16 - if you would like to attend visit this link to claim your free screening passes

Then on at 7pm on August 16th (at the same location) we have some slots available for Idris Elba’s latest film BEAST.
If you would like to attend send me an email click here by August 14th. Make sure to put BEAST in the subject field and specify if you would like to bring a guest - tickets are limited so it will be on a first come first served basis.

If you have any questions or comments or any news to share you can email us at the address above

Cheers

Eileen
